Galaxy has a convoluted history. Initially, they were an American brand owned by GPX. Then, they were acquired by Indians, and now they are the property of Yokohama. It’s good that they ended up there, because Japanese are known for supplying good tires at a very reasonable price.
These tires aren’t meant for passenger car (or any cars, really). They are used on heavy machinery – tractors, big trucks, excavators, and other vehicles for industrial, agricultural and other similar needs. Despite this, the principles they follow and the purposes they serve aren’t that different.
The tires even on this sort of machinery need to grip the ground very firmly in all circumstances. Galaxy tires are exceptionally good on dry and wet surfaces. On ice, their sheer weight allows them to stick to the ground firmly, although their treads also contribute to the effort.
Their traction is good, and that’s the main requirement. Not unlike all-terrain tires, they are good at going through rugged terrain, like hills, forests, tracks and other natural obstacles. It should help, but if it comes to going through something like that, you need to be careful, because Galaxy tires are still bulky and uncomfortable, like all heavy tires.
You can generally buy them for $100-200, depending on where you shop and what sort of tire you want. For every common heavy vehicle, they got a few tread options. So, you’ll have to look for the one you need and then order it online – that would be the best course of action.
In relation to other products of this category, it’s hard to judge the Galaxy brand. Unlike the passenger tire market, this one isn’t as rich on various options. On their own, these tires are well-done and reasonably priced. They are absolutely going to last for a long time.
Given that they cost like an average all-terrain tire, your investment will pay off fairly soon. Absolutely worth buying, or at least considering, if you have other options in mind.
