Petlas is a major Turkish tire producer. Turkey isn’t known for its rubber industry, and their tires are therefore pretty cheap. This state of things doesn’t inspire much faith in the quality of these tires, but it’s reasonable to give them a go.
The first thing you’ll notice while driving in these is that traction isn’t always confident. The dry ground is obviously their element, although the ice and water often complicate things. It’s especially noticeable if you try to climb a road covered in recent ice. To their credit, they’ll probably overcome this obstacle, even if takes some time.
So, they aren’t worthless. Moreover, they are very cheap and this less-than-ideal quality may be dismissed as a consequence. The grip problem is still looming, however. They would be ideal as temporary or spare tires, if not for their commendable longevity.
It can take several seasons for them to even start shedding. Considering their top performance when there’s no water around, they are perfect for driving in the Southern climates where rain and snow are scarce and rare. On other occasions, it’s not really recommended to buy Petlas tires if you can help it.
