Point S is one of the lesser American tire brands. In fact, the company behind the brand is just a bunch of tire dealers, and they banded together to build their own tires because they know a thing or two about them. Well, it turned out a good decision, because these tires are generally very well-done, despite the obscurity of this brand.
Contrary to what the big American brands often do, Point S doesn’t charge a lot for their tires. The regular cost is around $50, but the regional prices obviously skew the numbers a bit. It’s a good price precisely because they last for a long time, but their other characteristics also make it a good investment.
But first, when one speaks about Point S tires, they usually mean their Winterstar tires – the flagman of the entire brand. The company mostly sells these, and they are considered a high-performance winter tread of sorts. So, it’s better to imagine them from now on.
Point S tires are surprisingly durable. The sidewalls are comfortably soft, which means you won’t feel any bumps beneath your car, and you’ll generally be able to go over these obstacles with more ease. It might make them more prone to punctures and other damage, but the material is strong enough to negate the risks.
Now, these tires can last for as much as 50,000, and even beyond if you’re lucky. As such, they can be considered a great investment – a better investment compared to the winter tires from most big brands. Remember that you won’t have to pay much more than 200 USD for a set of these.
Moreover, you won’t have to suffer during driving, either. The traction is very good on dry, wet and snow. It seems that they thought especially hard about snow grip, because it isn’t much worse than driving in the rain, and doing it with Points S treads on is pretty comfortable.
The only problem is that you can’t really find enough of them outside of America. They are a collection of American dealers, and you’ll have to search very extensively if you want to find them abroad.
But if you can find Point S treads – don’t hesitate and give them a go, they are decent.
