Silverstone is a versatile brand of tires. And it’s not simply because they have a lot of options for all sorts of conditions, but the quality also varies from option to option.
They are considered especially apt at making all-terrain and high-performance tires. While they also have several ‘touring’ candidates for passenger cars, the people mostly talk about the all-terrain tires they make.
These are near perfect. They are durable both in terms of how tough they are and how long they serve. The usual Silverstone tire of this caliber can go beyond 30.000 km of mileage without any sort of puncture, no problem.
The other tires aren’t bad, but they have several nasty flaws, and some are flawed than others. The ‘standard’ summer rubber is especially disappointing – mainly for two reasons. First, they tend to absolutely lose grip in wet weather, which is a very noticeable flaw and a possible risk for health.
Secondly, they are rather noisy. Sounds like nitpick, but a lot of them (depending on the car, also) produce so much noise, it actually drives people insane. This decreases the comfort of driving very significantly.
The better high-performance summer models also have these flaws, although they aren’t as distinct. They provide a lot of comfort, great traction and a lot of mileage to spare.
Furthermore, many of these tires are fairly expensive – especially the off-road tires for all seasons (like XTREME or SPECIAL). This can cost a small fortune. However, if you need a few all-terrain tires for your car, they will pay off. They are really tough and it can take several years before you need another pack of them.
So, Silverstone is a great choice for off-road tires and an alright choice for usual and high-performance summer rubbers. Outside of America, you’ll likely only find the former because that’s the product they export a lot. If you do find one and feel you need it, feel free to purchase.
